[Subtitle Translation] The Tale of Shedding Skin

If human-beings could be immortal by shedding their own skin,

Would you be willing to tolerate the sharp pain of skin shedding or rather be mortal and pass away like a common person?

According to the legend of Saisiyat, all the members of the Thinaccer Family of Saisiyat used to be handsome and beautiful. What counts is that the Thinaccer Family 's members were all immortal! And so they had a great number of population.

The other Saisiyat families were all so curious the reason the Thinaccer Family could be immortal and had always asked them for the reason. Eventually a family member of the Thinaccers told them the reason behind.

So it turned out that, whenever the Thinaccers got old, they would leave for looking for a kind of tree called 'acer'. When they found the tree, they help it tight and started to rub the tree. The tree then started to shed its own bark -- And then the family member who rubbed it started to shed his own skin, too! When they finished the skin-shedding, they became young again -- OMG! This was just too amazing! (Forever young~I want to be forever young~)

And yet the thing is not always so simple. According to the Thinaccers, it hurt so much whenever they were shedding their own skin. Especially when the skin was shed to their eyes, it was the most hurt! After they disclosed the secret, many other tribal members went to try the way to be immortal, but no one succeeded, as it just hurt too much.

One day, when an elder was trying to shed his own skin and was doing the part of eyelids, it was so hurt that his face became so hideous and his body couldn't stop but shivered. Some Thinaccer children saw the elder and then laughed at him. The old man was so embarrassed and yet very angry. He then spit and cursed those children: "From now on, you will always lose the ability to shed your skin!"

Strangely, the curse did work! From then on, the Thinaccer Family loses the bility to shed skin and of course lose the ability to be immortal.

After this happened, the number of the family was still so many in the beginning. But as the Thinaccers were so good-looking that, they refused to intermarry with the other families' members. And so the Thinaccers started to decrease. Finally, there was only one Thinaccer girl left who lived by Xiantian Lake in Miaoli (See the picture). And then the Babai Family wanted to save the Thinaccer Family and so had one of their boy to marry to the girl. In this way, the Thinaccer Family could finally continue their lineage.

The story has ended, but the question is still there: Would you be willing to tolerate the sharp pain of skin shedding or rather be mortal and pass away like a common person?
